Listening to Parents can provide a wide range of services designed to make child welfare programs more responsive to prospective adoptive parents. These include:

Program Evaluation

  • Convening focus groups and interviewing prospective parents to understand how parents experience the adoption process.
  • Organizing and leading public hearings on how parents experience the adoption process.
  • Designing operational audits for state adoption services.
  • Analyzing systemic barriers to adoption.

Program Design

  • Designing ways to incorporate parent, and prospective parent, input into adoption programs.
  • Designing systems to make the adoption process more accessible and parent-friendly.

Training

  • Training adoption workers in techniques to increase retention of prospective adoptive parents.

Systemic Change

  • Consulting to Statewide Adoption Reform Task Forces.
  • Working with lawmakers to develop legislation that improves adoption services.
  • Consulting with parent groups and child advocates on system change.
  • Policy analysis and development.
